ERGYS 2

What is ERGYS 2?

The ERGYS 2 uses functional electrical stimulation to allow people with little or no voluntary leg movement to actively pedal a stationary cycle ergometer. It is used to improve motor output, endurance, and coordination in persons with neurological conditions.

How does ERGYS 2 work?

Computer generated, low-level electrical pulses are transmitted through surface electrodes causing coordinated contractions of your quadriceps, hamstrings, and gluteal muscles. Sensors located in the system provide continuous feedback to a computer which controls the sequence of muscle contractions as well as the resistance to pedaling. The result is smooth and natural pedaling, with your leg muscles supplying the power.

What are the benefits of ERGYS 2?

Benefits from regular participation in an ERGYS 2 program include the following:

  • Prevention of muscle atrophy
  • Relaxation of muscle spasm
  • Improvement of circulation
  • Improvement in range of motion

Clinical indications and published studies have also shown improvements in cardiopulmonary function, a reduction in the frequency of pressure sores, improvements in bowel and bladder function, and a decrease incidence of urinary tract infections.
